Ingredients for Gluten Free Skillet Cookie

Butter: Adds richness and flavor to the cookie. Contributes to the cookie’s texture by providing fat for moisture and tenderness.

Brown Sugar: Imparts a caramel-like sweetness and depth of flavor. Contributes to the chewiness of the cookie.

Granulated Sugar: Adds sweetness and also contributes to the cookie’s texture. Helps create a slightly crisp exterior.

Egg Yolk: Acts as a binder, holding the ingredients together. Adds richness and contributes to a tender texture.

Vanilla Extract: Enhances the overall flavor profile with a warm and sweet note.

Gluten-Free Flour Blend: Provides the structure and texture in the absence of traditional wheat flour. Ensures the cookie is suitable for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease.

Baking Soda: Works as a leavening agent, helping the cookie rise and become light and fluffy.

Salt: Balances sweetness and enhances the overall flavor.

Chocolate Chips: Provides gooey, melty pockets of chocolate throughout the cookie. Adds richness and indulgence to each bite.

Optional Nuts or Add-ins: Contributes additional texture and flavor, depending on personal preference. Add-in’s can include nuts, sprinkles, dried fruits, other kinds of chocolate chips, etc.

Cast-Iron Skillet: Serves as the baking vessel, contributing to a crispy exterior and soft interior. Allows for easy one-bowl preparation and a rustic presentation. In this recipe I used this 6in Skillet.

Tips for a Successful Gluten Free Cookie Skillet

Here are some tips to ensure success when making the one-bowl Gluten Free Skillet Cookie recipe:

Measure Ingredients Accurately: Use precise measurements, especially for the flour, to maintain the right balance of ingredients and prevent the cookie from being too dry or too wet. Check out my video about How to Properly Measure Flour!

Don’t Overmix the Dough: Mix the ingredients until just combined. Overmixing can lead to a tougher texture. Stop mixing as soon as the ingredients are fully incorporated.

Press the Dough Evenly: Press the cookie dough evenly into the skillet for consistent baking. This ensures the cookie bakes uniformly, preventing undercooked or overcooked spots.

Monitor Baking Time: Keep a close eye on the baking time, as cast-iron skillets conduct heat well. Start checking for doneness a few minutes before the suggested time to avoid overbaking.

Let it Rest After Baking: Allow the skillet cookie to rest for a few minutes before slicing. This helps the cookie set, making it easier to cut into neat portions.

Serve Warm: For the best experience, serve the skillet cookie warm. The gooey texture and melty chocolate are especially delightful when enjoyed fresh out of the oven.

Get Creative with Toppings: Consider topping the warm skillet cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of caramel, or a sprinkle of sea salt for extra flavor and indulgence. Or ALL THREE for the ultimate Skillet Cookie!!

With these tips, you’re well on your way to creating a delicious and fuss-free Gluten Free Skillet Cookie!
