What I’m baking this season

Where this all began

My love for baking started at a very young age. As a young girl I would always help my mom make a batch of chocolate chip cookies (mostly because I just wanted to eat the dough, I mean who doesn’t want to!). As I got, older I was curious about the rest of the baking world. I wanted to try baking more things like cupcakes, dessert bars, layered cakes (but mostly cupcakes). Soon enough I was on my own in the kitchen. This passion was cultivated out of the love of getting to be creative in the kitchen and also make really yummy desserts that I got to share with the people around me. I learned that’s what I love the most, I LOVE sharing it with people because of how much joy it brings them!! There’s nothing like seeing someone’s eyes light up after their first bite of cake.

What was next?

I knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life, because why not do what you love right? So I packed my bags from my little hometown in Michigan and moved to Rhode Island to go to culinary school at Johnson and Wales University. I would learn from some of the most amazing pastry chefs, do my internship at Walt Disney World, and then 3 years later I earned my bachelors degree in the Science of Baking and Pastry Arts. All during that time, I met Benjamin the love of my life, at the church I started going to and we got married the fall after I graduated college. Guys, lemme tell you God works in some pretty cool ways! Now, I currently work at a bakery here in Providence, Rhode Island and it’s so much fun getting to do what I do!

This journey is part of my story

A few months into building this blog (May 2023), I got some unexpected news that I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an auto-immune disease that attacks your thyroid. Good news, its reversable! Bad news, I have to cut gluten out of my diet in order to reverse it and take care of making my body healthy again. My world turned upside down! I was sad to have to give up the foods that I love but I felt encouraged to keep doing what I enjoy the most. I felt that God has given me the strength to keep going and he has reminded me time and time again that this journey is going to be beautiful!

How did I get here…

I wanted to expand on how much I love getting to share desserts with others by creating my own recipes and getting to share them with you! Along with sharing the baking tips that I have learned over the 6+ years I’ve spent in the industry. Having to cut Gluten out of my diet was a hard thing to face but I was NOT going to let it stop me from chasing after my dreams!! It’s a Beautiful Day to Bake is here to give you some really freaking good GLUTEN FREE dessert recipes to impress the guests of your next cookout or dinner party, but also give you pro baking tips and tricks that I wish I had access to when I wanted to know how to up my baking game! Because I believe anyone should have access to these resources!

So, if you love to bake, if you love to share it with your friends and family, and if you want to learn all there is about baking and how to get that beautifully decorated cake or perfectly round cookies, you have come to the right place my friend 😉 and I am so happy you’re here! We are going to have some serious fun (picture me happy dancing in my kitchen)!
