Ingredients for Gluten Free Blondies
Let’s break down the roles of these delicious ingredients in our gluten-free blondie recipe:
Brown Butter: Think of browned butter as the superstar of our recipe! It adds a rich, toasty, and slightly nutty flavor to the blondies. It also contributes to that irresistible chewy texture.
Light Brown Sugar: This sweet ingredient not only provides sweetness but also helps keep our blondies moist and tender. It’s responsible for that wonderful caramel-like taste.
Egg: Eggs are the binding agent in our blondies. They hold everything together, ensuring the blondies have the perfect structure.
Egg Yolks: The yolks bring extra moisture and richness to the blondies. They add a velvety, creamy texture that contrasts beautifully with the crisp edges.
Vanilla: Vanilla extract is like the aromatic whisper in our recipe, infusing the blondies with a warm, inviting fragrance and enhancing the overall flavor.
Gluten-Free Flour: It serves as a substitute for traditional wheat flour, allowing those with gluten sensitivities to enjoy these blondies. It still provides the necessary structure while being gentle on the tummy.
Salt: Salt is the unsung hero, balancing the sweetness and enhancing all the other flavors. It’s a key player in achieving that perfect sweet-savory harmony.
Flakey Sea Salt: top your blondies with some flakey sea salt. Totally optional, but will take your blondies to the next level! Whenever I top my desserts with a little bit of salt, I am ALWAYS reaching for this brands Flakey Sea Salt!
Together, these ingredients work their magic to create a delectable gluten-free blondie that is melt in your mouth AMAZING!!
Tips for making Gluten Free Blondies
Here are tips to ensure your Browned Butter Gluten-Free Blondies are to die for:
Golden Brown Butter: When browning the butter, keep a close eye on it. It can go from beautifully browned to burnt in a flash. You want a deep, golden color and a nutty aroma – that’s when it’s perfect!
Room Temperature Eggs: Use room temperature eggs and egg yolks for a smoother batter. They incorporate more evenly and help create that perfect texture.
Measure Your Flour: When using gluten-free flour, accurate measuring is crucial. Spoon the flour into your measuring cup and level it off for precision. Check out my video on how to properly measure your flour!
Mix Gently: after each addition of a new ingredient, only mix until just combined. Especially once you add the flour, mix only until just combined. Overmixing can lead to tough blondies, and we want them to be tender and chewy.
Line the Pan: Line your baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides. This makes it easy to lift the blondies out for cutting. I LOVE this parchment paper from Reynolds Kitchen! They come in perfect sheets that can easily be cut to the size of your pan. Super easy to use!
Cool Before Cutting: Let your blondies cool completely in the pan before slicing. This allows them to set and makes for neater squares.
Get Creative: The best part about baking in my opinion! Feel free to add mix-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit to customize your blondies. Ooo, or maybe even a little dash of cinnamon would be delicious in these Gluten Free Blondies! They’re like a blank canvas for your sweet cravings! And I am here for it!!
Storage: Store your blondies in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days or freeze them for longer storage.
If you follow these tips and tricks, I promise that your Gluten Free Blondies will come out chefs kiss every single time!
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a blondie and a brownie?
Blondies are the lighter, sweeter, and butterscotch-flavored siblings of brownies, which are all about the rich cocoa and intense chocolate taste. It’s a choice between sweet and buttery (blondies) or dark and chocolatey (brownies). Both are equally delightful!
Are blondies supposed to be gooey?
Yes, blondies should be gooey! If your blondies are dry and crumbly that means that they were overbaked and/or overmixed. When made correctly, blondies should have an ooey gooey, melt-in-your-mouth texture with a slightly underbaked center. If you find that your blondies are dry, try baking them for a shorter amount of time and pay close attention to how much you’re mixing the batter.
Can you freeze blondies?
Absolutely, you can freeze blondies! In fact, it’s a great way to enjoy them later. Here’s how:
- Cool Completely: Allow your blondies to cool entirely at room temperature.
- Wrap Well: Cut them into squares or your desired portions. Wrap each piece tightly in plastic wrap, or you can layer them in an airtight container with parchment paper in between to prevent sticking.
- Double Protection: For added freshness, you can place the wrapped blondies in a resealable freezer bag.
- Label and Date: Don’t forget to label and date your container or bag so you can keep track of how long they’ve been in the freezer.
- Freeze: Pop them in the freezer. Blondies can typically be stored in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.
When you’re ready to enjoy them, simply take out the desired portion, let them thaw at room temperature, and savor the deliciousness all over again!

- Mixing bowls
- Measuring Cups & Spoons
- Rubber spatula
- 8×8 inch Cake Pan
- Parchment Paper
Ingredients
- 1 c. (228g) Butter browned
- 2 1/4 c. (480g) Brown Sugar light
- 1 Egg whole
- 2 Egg Yolks
- 2 tbsp. (27g) Vanilla Extract
- 2 1/2 c. (313g) Gluten Free All-Purpose Flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. (10g) Salt
- Flakey Sea Salt optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8×8 inch cake pan with parchment paper and baking spray.
- To brown the butter, place the butter into a medium sauce pot and place it on the stove over medium heat. Once the butter is completely melted stir occasionally. The butter will begin to make crackling sounds and become foamy on the surface. Continue to stir often as the crackling sound stops and the milk solids at the bottom of the pot begin to turn golden brown. The butter will have a nutty aroma at this point.
- Once the butter has a beautiful golden-brown color and that nutty aroma, pour it into a mixing bowl (including the browned milk solids at the bottom of the pot) and set aside.
- Add the light brown sugar to the bowl of browned butter and whisk together until combined.
- Next, add the whole egg, egg yolks, and vanilla to the batter. Whisk together until combined.
- Next, add the gluten free flour and salt to the batter. Using a rubber spatula gently fold the ingredients together.
- Add the batter to the 8×8 inch cake pan and top with some flakey sea salt if desired.
- Bake for 40 minutes.
- Allow the blondies to cool for about 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
